Quick Poster

You Don't want to know extreme effects/extraordinary color combinations to create a cool poster for your events or for creating your desktop wallpaper..

Today I have a cool poster design tutorial for you. This tutorial is written in Gimp. Almost same tools and techniques are used in photoshop for creating this.

One cool day morning my friend came to me and asked a favor, his branch is conducting a quiz competition and he need a poster for that. His primary requirements are

1)Need poster by evening.
2)Must be simple.
3)Must be striking at first look.
4)No specified theme or something like that.

I just tried some designs.....but that wont working......

So I started surfing ( for just download any good wallpaper and rename using our events name)

Then I noticed a funny thing....Most of the posters for quiz events have a common element........”Einstein”

I just downloaded some Einstein wallpapers and pics from net. Then suddenly I got a wallpaper, I am just giving it below
(sorry cant remember the source)

Now all I have is a good wallpaper and some Einstein face wallpapers.

K then lets start.....

STEP 1

Open GIMP
Applications>Graphics>GIMP Image Editor (I am using gimp 2.6)

I wanna create a poster in A3 size so..

File > New

in template select A3 and landscape (we need a wide wallpaper )

In windows menu> recently closed docks> Layers, channels.paths......for selecting layer menu nd all
then minimize gimp window, open the Ali Tayshoori wallpaper with gimp(right click and open with gimp image editor)
then
Edit>copy ali wallpaper and close this window.

Go to minimized gimp window in which background layer is open and paste this as a new layer.

For that

right click on the background and then
edit>paste as>New layer

if resizing is needed resize using scale tool (shift+T)
in resizing window use lock sign for keep aspect ratio

Reduce to suitable width and height

STEP 2

erase the unwanted parts using erase tool

if you want to step back use ctrl+z

resize, delete the unwanted portions from Einstein image

and some touch-ups, titles.......poster is ready

(use a black & white Einstein face)

Add a suitable caption

My caption is
"HUNT FOR THE 21 ST CENTURY EINSTEIN"

and the final poster is

The name of the event is also suprb
mex >means mechanical
Quiz one> means first intra college quiz

smiler works using the same technique is given below..

Thank you.......

VIRUS EFFECT

Hi friends… For Photoshop users who are interested in experimenting and learning something new I think this is a powerful and simple tutorial. Sorry you don’t want to know Photoshop for creating this wallpaper…..by simply following the steps…you will be able to create this.So lets begin

Final result …….

Ok let’s begin…

Thinks that we needed to make this virus effect are simple.

Your face with close zooming and the background should be dark to get a better result. Take the picture with flashlight ON. Try to avoid shadows in your photo.

The next think we needed is beautiful wallpaper. I used the one given below. By changing the wallpapers, you will be able to produce spectacular results

Here is my wallpaper

I cropped the original wallpaper to make this. The name of this wallpaper is “The roadside day dream”

STEP 1
Create a new document, mine is 1600x1200 pixels.
Fill it with black. For that go to Edit>Fill

In fill menu use: color…

I used # 000000

STEP 2

Open your crazy face. (File>open)

Drag your image to the background layer using move tool. And rename this layer as “face”.

In most of the cases your face layer will be very large compared to background layer.
For resizing..(Experts plz avoid)
First zoom out the image using zoom tool
Then select the face layer from the layer box

Then select the rectangular marquee tool (M), Right click on the image and then select free transform

After transforming the image will look like this (will overlapped on the wallpaper layer)

STEP 3

Go to Image>Adjustments>Threshold

Adjust the threshold level and then press OK

STEP 4

Add the background wallpaper as a new layer and rename as “wallpaper” (I used name layer 1)
Place this “wallpaper” layer below the face layer
If resizing is needed do resizing for wallpaper layer as mentioned in step 2

Then select the face layer and in blending mode for layer option choose multiply.

Use the move tool and do some fine adjustments……. And the wallpaper is ready!

I hope you enjoyed this little Photoshop quickie. It's not perfect and it certainly could get more in-depth, but I had fun making it. That said, let me see yours!
THANK YOU………..
